Abstract

1468631 Removing ceramic articles from moulds J A GARCIA 13 Feb 1975 [16 Feb 1974] 6215/75 Heading B5A A ceramic article is formed between cooperating male and female mould patterns, which are then separated from one another in a horizontal direction leaving the article supported on the male pattern, the article is transferred on to an intermediate carriage and then removed from the carriage on to a conveyer passing beneath the mould patterns and carriage. As described, clay slip for moulding a double bowled sink unit 5 (Fig. 5) is injected through runners 8 into a plurality of adjacent mould cavities. The male pattern 1 of a first mould and female pattern 2 of a second adjacent mould are formed integrally as a gypsum block 3 (see also Fig. 1) having air passages 9 and running on rails 20 by height adjustable wheels 4. The blocks 3 are clamped together by opposed jacks. After partial drying of the slip by hot air from a duct 30, the blocks 3 are moved apart successively to reveal the sink units. A glass fibre reinforced polyester frame 16 is placed over each unit and pivoted by a cradle 18 to lower the frame and sink unit (freed from the male former by compressed air and manually) on to an intermediate carriage 13 running on rails 21. The frame and article are transferred to an endless conveyer 14 for transport to one end of the line of moulds, with edge lips of the frame 16 resting on the conveyer.
