Abstract

1468546 Pulse doppler radar MARCONI CO Ltd 12-May 1975 [11 July 1974] 30688/74 Heading H4D A pulsed doppler radar uses injection phase priming of a pulsed oscillator 1 in an attempt to achieve pulse to pulse coherence. Noise phase modulation however causes the phases of successive pulses to randomly vary about a mean phase. To overcome this the phase of each pulse is detected and used to vary the triggering instant of the oscillator. The local oscillator 7 produces, via coupling 9, the injection signal for the oscillator via circulator 3. The transmitted pulse, as leaked through duplexer 4, together with any doppler shifted echoes, is changed to IF by means of the local oscillator and mixer 6, and the phase of the pulse and echoes determined by detector 11 using the frequency multiplied output of trigger generator 14 as reference, via calibration phase changer 12. A sampler 16, controlled by the trigger pulses, separates out and stores the phase of the transmitted pulse so that this can be used, via stabilizing circuit 18, for controlling the oscillator modulator via variation of the triggering pulses.
