1468211 Coated article with tiled appearance MULTORGAN STIFTUNG FUR GEIST UND FORTSCHRITT 21 May 1974 [26 Feb 1974] 22615/74 Heading B2E An article having a tiled appearance includes a base plate, one surface of which is sub-divided by grooves into areas representing tile configurations, a lower coat of paint covering this surface and the grooves therein, and an upper coat of paint comprising a clear varnish mixed with a tinting medium or a pigment having a maximum particle size of 5 microns. The base plate may be of wood or hardboard (optionally with an ivory cladding), fibreboard or chipboard and is grooved by stamping or cutting. The paints may be applied by curtain coating or spraying. The upper coat may comprise melamine resin solution and is normally applied more thinly in the region of the grooves so that the lower coat shows through to provide tile-defining lines. The upper coat may be thicker near the "tile" edges to form a slight bulge extending around the edges of each tile configuration.
