Abstract

1468184 Fluid-pressure control circuits AUSTRALIAN IRON & STEEL Pty Ltd 1 April 1974 [12 April 1973] 14402/74 Heading F1P [Also in Division F2] In the circuit shown in Fig. 1, a motor 9, which drives a rock-drill, is fed through a valve 6, a line 18 and a line 12 in a flow-divider 5 whilst a drill-feed motor 10 is driven through a valve 8 and a line 13. An adjustable orifice 22 determines the flow in the line 13. This orifice is in a valve 17, Fig. 2, and is normally held at a maximum by a spring 23. When the drill, driven by, the motor 9, encounters hard rock, the pressure in line 18 rises This rise is fed via line 19 to a piston 20 of the valve 17 and acts to progressively close the orifice 22 thus decreasing the rate at which the drill is fed into the rock. An anti-stall valve 24, Figs. 1, 4, has an orifice needle 33 which is lifted from its seat to return fluid to the reservoir if the pressure in a passage 36 rises above a pre-set limit due to the drill engaging hard rock. A screw 35 provides the pre-set load on a spring 30A. Valves 6, 7, 8 are held in position by detent devices and valve 8 is automatically returned to its retract position when the drill feed reaches the end of its travel thereby causing a rise in pressure in the feed line 13A. When the drill feed is fully retracted an overload valve 39 opens. Safety relief valves 40, 41 are provided in case the feed rate is not reduced. A ram 11 locks the drill pillar between roof and floor in a mine. Fig. 3 shows the spool valve 8 with the detent device 37 and relief valve 39. A member 61 is forced against a seat 62 by a spring 63, the pressure of which is adjusted by a screw 64. When the motor 10 has reached the end of its travel, pressure rise through a bleed 78 lifts member 61 off its seat so that spring 52 can move the spool 45 to the null position. Relief valve 39 is a poppet valve. The anti-stall valve is also incorporated. A pressure rise in inlet 99, due to the drill approaching stall conditions, acts on piston 93 to open valvemember 94 against a spring 97. Screw 101 adjusts the latter.
