Abstract
1467935 Measuring current XEROX CORP 22 May 1975 [3 Oct 1974] 22044/75 Heading G1U [Also in Division G3] Errors that arise in the prior art method of measuring a corona discharge current between an electrode 3 and a plate 2, Fig. 3, by measuring the voltage across a resistor R 2 in series with the discharge device, the errors arising because of a capacitance C3 that appears parasitically across the discharge device 2, 3 are eliminated by arranging the device X, Fig. 4, which shows the equivalent circuit R 1 , CR 1 , CR 2 , C 1 of the device in full lines, by applying a reduced supply voltage across the bridge of insufficient amplitude to cause a discharge to occur, by balancing the bridge, and then by measuring the diagonal voltage across the bridge when the full supply voltage is applied. In the circuit shown the diagonal voltage is amplified and used retroactively to control the voltage applied across the bridge so that the discharge current remains constant. As described the plate 2 forms part of a photoreceptor in a xerographic printing apparatus and the refinements of the invention over the prior art are especially desirable because of the tendency to use supply voltages in the range 400 to 600 Hz rather than mains frequency, to eliminate the production of strobed charge patterns.
