1467923 Ammonia generating apparatus A D BRITE 18 Aug 1975 34295/75 Heading B1X [Also in Division Cl] An article for cleaning ovens and the like comprises a container which can be bodily inserted into a household oven or like apparatus, the container having means for forming an opening in one wall thereof, a mixture in said container for the generation of a supply of steam and ammonia from the container, the mixture comprising calcium oxide of maximum particle size <SP>1</SP>/ 16 " and an ammonium salt, and means disposed within the container for receiving a supply of water and controlling the rate at which the water is added to the mixture. In use, water is added to the article to initiate an exothermic reaction and the container is then enclosed in the oven; steam and ammonia are generated and condense on the oven walls. As shown a container 11 of metal or foil-lined cardboard is divided by core-shaped member 16 of resin-treated paper. The chemical mixture 21 is contained between the cone-shaped member and the walls of the container. The lid can be punctured at 14 to provide an opening 15. Water is added to the coneshaped member; a small amount leaks through a small aperture 16a to start the reaction, and as the mixture heats up steam is generated, the seam 16b of the cone-shaped member opens and the cone-shaped member collapses, allowing access of all the water to the chemical mixture and completion of the reaction.
