Abstract
1467664 Zoom lens CANON KK 6 March 1974 [6 March 1973 2 Aug 1973 6 Aug 1973] 9979/74 Heading G2J A zoom lens system including at least two movable lens groups 11, 12, Fig. 3, both movable, e.g. manually or by motor at P, Q, along the optical axis to effect magnification change and simultaneously compensate for image phase shift comprises a first detecting means 14 detecting the position of one group, a second detecting means 15 detecting the position of the other group, operation means controlled by the two detecting means, e.g. circuit 16, to determine the required position of the other group to maintain the image plane constant following magnification change effected by movement of the one group, and setting means, e.g. circuit 17 and motor 18 acting via rack and pinion 20, 19, to adjust the position of the other group. Figs. 2A-2C show a zoom lens having a fixed front and rear lens 5, 8, a fixed focal plane 9 and movable variator and imaging groups 6, 7. In Fig. 2A the zoom lens is set to its longest focal length and focused on infinity. In Fig. 2B lens 7 is moved a distance a to focus on object O distant R from lens 5. To zoom the lens from its telephoto setting for a required magnification, lens 6 is moved distance c and lens 7 distance (b-a) where b = function of (a, c). The speed and accuracy of focusing depend on the distance R, the focal length and the aperture, and each detector may be a rheostat rotated on adjusting a lens or an encoder plate Figs. 7, 8 (not shown) moved with a lens, with a plurality of brushes contacting differently spaced conductors on the plate to accommodate the accuracy for a given distance setting. In the embodiment of Fig. 10 the set value of aperture 212 is detected at 213 and fed to circuit 214 whereby the motor adjusts the lens positions accordingly. Imaging lens 7 and variator 6 may have their functions reversed or the lens 6, 7 may be fixed and the lens 5, 8 made movable, but this entails a larger diameter front lens 5. Imaging lens 7 may be formed by two movable groups Fig. 11 (not shown).
