Abstract

1467662 Moulding bottle cap V FLAX 26 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 8713/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A capping capsule comprises a tubular portion integrally formed with a base from a single piece of heat shrinkable material such that the capsule shrinks to conform with the shape of the neck of a bottle on heating. The base is formed by threading a piece of tubular sheath 1 on to a mandrel 2, heating and hence shrinking the part 3 of the sheath 1, which extends beyond the mandrel 2, to form a chimney 4 which is turned back into the space 6 and by advancing the spring-loaded piston 5 is compressed against an abutment 7 to form a base having a diameter less than that of the tubular part 3. The tubular part 3 may be stepped. In one embodiment the chimney enters the space 6 by suction means.
