Abstract

1467548 Aluminium lake process COLORCON Inc 16 July 1975 29880/75 Heading C4P Alumina lakes particularly for use in colouring foods and pharmaceuticals are obtained by laking a F.D. and C dye containing an acid group with alumina hydrate obtained by mixing aluminium chloride with aqueous sodium bicarbonate at a temperature not higher than 20‹ C. Preferably the chloride is added as an aqueous solution in a weight ratio of NaHCO 3 to AlCl 3 of 555 to 1000, and the precipitated alumina hydrate subsequently ground and then the dye dissolved in water added at 20-60‹ C. and the cake dried at 50‹ C.
