Abstract

1467545 Growing bean sprouts HODOGAYA CHEMICAL CO Ltd 24 June 1975 [29 June 1974] 26747/75 Heading A1E Bean seeds are impregnated with water incorporating calcium peroxide in the range of 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the weight of the bean seeds to promote germination. Subsequently oxygen may be supplied to a bed of the germinated bean sprouts to promote growth, e.g. by supplying oxygen directly or by the use of hydrogen or calcium peroxide. In one example the beans seeds are immersed in water incorporating the calcium peroxide, are then washed and then allowed to grow under requisite conditions of temperature and humid darkness. Alternatively the germinated bean seeds are placed in a vessel on a perforated draining board or net, calcium peroxide and water being placed in the space between the bottom of the vessel and draining board. Interaction between the calcium peroxide and water produces oxygen to promote growth.
