Abstract

1467465 Injection-blow-moulding; cooling SHOWA DENKO KK and NISSEI PLASTICS INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 13 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 21138/74 Heading B5A In an injection-blow-moulding process, the parison is cooled in the injection mould, subsequently reheated and blow-moulded, the injection mould having a plurality of cooling channels distributed regularly around and extending parallel to the axis of the mould cavity, the flow of cooling fluid in each channel being independently regulated. As shown in Fig. 2, the injection mould comprises inner and outer parts 1, 1<SP>1</SP> defining therebetween channels 14 for cooling fluid, equally spaced around the axis of the cavity and having inlets 15 and outlets 16. Plate 2 carries an injection mandrel co-operating with mould 1 to define mould cavity 3. Injection platen 17 incorporates runners, torpedo 18, sprue 19, &c. The flow of cooling fluid is regulated to provide final blown articles of uniform or non-uniform wall thickness. The parison may be of polypropylene.
