Abstract
1467442 Cutting inserts WICKMAN WIMET Ltd 28 Feb 1974 [22 March 1973] 13788/73 Heading B3B A polygonal shaped indexable cutting insert comprising a plurality of straight sides which extend between end faces of the insert, the sides being joined by radiused corners, each straight side having a sharpened cutting edge formed thereon, each cutting edge having on an adjacent end face a V-shaped section chip groove one side of the groove terminating at an associated sharpened cutting edge, each of the grooves varying uniformly in width lengthwise of the side of the insert, the bottom of the groove at its narrower end terminating on the radius of an adjacent radiused corner each of the corners defining a termination of one of the cutting edges. In the embodiment described the insert is of generally of rhombic configuration with cutting edges being formed at the juncture of the end faces 10, 11, with sides 16, 18 and 17, 19 respectively, chip grooves 12, 13, in surface 10 being associated with sides 16, 18 and grooves 14, 15 associated with sides 17, 19. The narrow ends of the grooves intersect the radiused corners of the insert at which the cutting edge terminates. The grooves vary in both width and depth.
