1467281 Spherical nuclear fuel particles HOBEG HOCHTEMPERATURREAKTORBRENNELEMENT GmbH 23 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 23055/74 Heading ClA Substantially uniform spherical particles of nuclear fuel and fertile material are produced by injecting a uranium- and/or thorium-containing solution through one or more nozzles into a stream of gaseous ammonia flowing in countercurrent and subsequently hardening the particles in an alkaline solution. Improved throughput and uniformity may be achieved by vibrating the nozzles in a plane perpendicular to the direction of flow at a frequency in the 50-1000 Hz, preferably using the apparatus described in Specification 1,467,282.
