Abstract
1467040 Sealing the ends of a nip between rollers - stuffer box crimping HOECHST AG 13 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 26265/74 Heading D1F The ends of a nip formed by parallel rollers are sealed by plates parallel to the coplanar roller end faces, each plate bearing against the end faces of sealing elements fitted into the roller end faces and whose position is adjustable in the axial direction of the rollers, the elements being rotatable relative to the rollers, and means being provided to prevent rotation of the elements. As shown, in a stuffer box crimper, sealing plates 7 inserted in lateral parts 9 of a stuffer-box crimper are pressed, e.g. by a bolt, against annular seals 5 running on bearings 4 in feed rolls 1, 1' to define sealing gap 8. The seals are connected to the bearings by, e.g. set screws, to vary the gap width. Rotation of the seals is prevented, e.g. by a pin. The sealing plates may be of sintered ceramic material, brass or bronze.
