Abstract

1466635 Cutting apparatus J MARTIN 7 May 1975 [21 May 1974] 19255/75 Heading B4B A device for cutting sheet material comprises an elongate base 12, a clamp bar 14 for clamping sheet material on the base, the clamp bar being raised and lowered by means of cams 42 engaging the ends of the bar which ends are guided by means of guides 24, the cams being actuated via arms 44 connected to a handle 46. The clamp bar is fixed to a rod 18, the ends of which constitute cam followers and engage in slide blocks 32 which slide in the guides 24 and are urged downwardly by springs 36. The cams 42 are provided with hook portions 50 which act on the ends of the rod 18 when the bar 14 is in its clamping positions and with detents 48 engaged by the said ends when the bar is in its raised position. A carriage 54 is slidable on the rod 18 and carries a pair of blade holders 62, 64; the holders are pivotably mounted on the carriage and loaded by spring 106 so that respective blades 66, 68 are normally held in an inoperative position. In use, a sheet of material is placed on the base and located thereon by an adjustable stop 130 and fixed stops 140. If a straight cut is required, the holder 64 is pressed downwardly by a handle 72 to bring the blade into contact with the material and the carriage then moved by means of the handle. The holder 62 is used in a similar way to produce a chamfered cut.
