Abstract
1466473 Purifying effluents CIBA-GEIGY AG 7 Nov 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 48239/74 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] Industrial effluent is purified by contacting it with an adsorption agent comprising a carrier (in particular cellulose), which has been pretreated with a basic, precipitating agent (as defined), and activated charcoal. Preferably the effluent is passed through the agent, using it as a filter at a temperature of 10‹ to 150‹ C. Specified effluents are from the dyestuff, textile, paper and leather industries. The examples illustrate the removal of various dyes and dyeing assistants from aqueous solution. Carrier materials other than cellulose are asbestos, fuller's earth, diatomaceous earth, polyethylene glycol terephthalate and urea formaldehyde resin. Specified basic precipitating agents are dicyandiamide/urea/formaldehyde resin, ethylenediamine / dicyandiamide / formaldehyde resin, polyethyleneimine and a polyamide-polyamine.
