1466470 Photocurable printing inks SICPA HOLDING SA 18 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 41227/75 Divided out of 1466469 Heading C3P An intaglio printing ink composition which is curable by ultraviolet radiation comprises 20-75% by weight of a curable binder selected from esters and amides of acrylic acid, 2-40% of a pigment, 1-10% of a photoinitiator, 0À1-3% of an activator, and 10-60% of an inert extender permeable to ultraviolet rays. Suitable binders include pentaerythritol tetraacrylate, 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate, a reaction product of N-(1,1-dimethyl-3-oxobutyl)-acrylamide with formaldehyde, or a reaction product of toluene diisocyanate and a mixture of 2- hydroxyethyl acrylate and pentaerythritol triacrylate. The extender may be a finely divided or micronized organic or inorganic material, e.g. rosin, aminoplasts, phenolic resins, acrylic resins, vinyl resins, natural or synthetic waxes, tale, asbestos, barytes, silica, bentonite, silicates of Ca, Mg or Al, calcium carbonate or sulphate, dolomite or kaolin. Exemplified activators are triisopropanolamine, triisopropylamine and morpholine; and exemplified initiators are benzoin alkyl ethers, diphenyl ketone and their substituted derivatives. A suitable pigment is phthalocyanine blue.
