1465871 Pulse code modulation OKI ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO Ltd and NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORP 10 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 1110/75 Heading H3H In converting a P.A.M. signal (b) to a P.C.M. signal (i) the P.A.M. signal is rectified in a folding amplifier 2, amplitude bits 2-8 produced by an encoder 3, sign bit by a comparator 4, the sign comparison being made during the 8th bit time slot (i.e. at the end of the P.A.M. pulse) to avoid errors due to slow acquisition of the sign output signal (c) from the folding amplifier at low amplitude inputs, seven bit shift delay 9 allowing the sign bit to appear in the first position of the final P.C.M. word.
