Abstract

1465699 Wheeled toys T J RICHARDSON 30 Sept 1974 [4 July 1973] 31962/73 Heading A6S A wheeled toy, e.g. a toy car or toy animal, has a permanent magnet at or near one end of a lever capable of limited pivotal movement, so that when a further permanent magnet is brought near to the magnet on the lever, wheeled and steering movement of the toy can be effected. In the form of a toy car, the lever is hidden within the car body, but in the form of a toy animal part of the lever may be visible, e.g. it may simulate the neck or part of the spine of the animal. A toy car incorporating the lever, &c. consists of a body shell and a base plate carrying the rear axle. The front axle is carried by a bracket having two vertical pivot pins, one before the other, the front pivot pin connecting the bracket to the base plate and the other extending through a transverse arcuate slot in the base plate. A further pivot pin in the base plate carries the steering, &c lever which is slotted at its front end to engage the rearward pin on the front axle bracket and at its rear end carries a permanent magnet. The car may carry a simulated driver, and the steering lever is then cranked and extends up towards the rear of the body shell. Another permanent magnet, either carried directly in the hand or mounted at the end of a stick, effects movement of the car when brought near the permanent magnet on the steering lever, e.g. by magnetic repulsion. A toy animal incorporating the steering lever consists of a shell simulating the rear legs, the lever including the head of the animal being pivoted inside the shell. Part of the lever is visible between the head and body shell. The magnet forms the upper jaw of the animal's head.
