Abstract

146,564. Sinclair, G. G., and Inglis, T. S. March 12, 1919. Casting in situ.-In shuttering for hollow concrete structures, which is held in position by ties which are left in the structure, the ties are formed with shoulders, notches, or the like to support and keep in position the internal shuttering of the hollow concrete walling, the ties in some cases being formed in three and more parts. Fig. 5 shows a tie supported on the last course built and provided with notches to position and support the internal shuttering, while the extremities of the tie supports the face-plates of the shuttering, these face-plates in this instance being secured by wedges. Fig. 19 shows a tie having shoulders and also the ends turned up to engage the face-plates. In addition, inverted stirrups may be used to assist in supporting and positioning the plates. Ties may be formed in three or more parts. Fig. 31 shows such a tie, the central portion Being removed to allow the withdrawal of the shuttering and afterwards replaced. In other forms, the tie is employed with a temporary centre as shown in the top tie in Fig. 6. This centre, on withdrawal, leaves a moulded recess for the reception of the permanent portion, as shown in the. bottom tie in Fig. 6. Fig. 58 shows another form of tie, in which the outer portions m may be temporarily connected to the centre portion k by means of skewers n or o, which may be withdrawn when the shutters are released to enable the outer portions of the tie to be also withdrawn. The shuttering may be shaped, flat, flanged, corrugated, indented, impressed, buckled, arched, or built-up and stiffened with angles, tees, channels, or joists. The outer thickness of the wall may be comprised of different aggregate from the inner thickness. According to the Provisional Specification, the shuttering may be supported on the last course built by internal flanges and various forms of straps, clips, and stirrups or yokes to connect and support the plates are described. Angle and other shuttering for corners, reveals, &c. are also described.
