Abstract
1465626 Fluid pressure switches TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 19 April 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 17174/74 Heading H1N [Also in Division F2] A system for sending out a warning signal if deceleration of a vehicle is not consistent with the brake pressure applied due to, for example, overheating or water in a brake mechanism, comprises a switch mounted at angle on a vehicle body 40 by a bracket 39. Fluid pressure from the master cylinder 3 acts through an aperture 8 and chamber 9 on a diaphragm 10 which causes leftward movement of a member 18 carrying a contact 26 adapted to engage with a contact 33 of a leaf spring 31 biased to the right by a ball 35, the latter engaging the leaf spring 31 under gravity. Under normal braking contacts 26, 33 do not engage since vehicle deceleration in direction P causes ball 35 to move leftward under inertia and the natural leftward bias of spring 31 moves contact 33 away from contact 26. If the brake pressure does not give rise to an appropriate deceleration contacts 26, 33 do engage and a circuit is made through a terminal 17, battery 38 and switch body 1 causing a lamp or buzzer 37 to be activated. In an alternative embodiment, a weight is fixed to the leaf spring to replace the ball. In a modification of this embodiment, the inertia and brake pressure responsive parts of the switch are separated physically but are electrically coupled through terminals on each part. The inertia responsive part may have a screw (56) engaging the leaf spring to adjust the stress thereof.
