Abstract

1465291 Immersion percolating biological filter H HARTMANN 15 May 1974 [27 June 1973] 21535/74 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] An immersion percolating filter for biologically purifying sewage effluent has growth accumulation surfaces, which are adapted to be slowly rotated about an axis of rotation whereby the surfaces are alternately immersed in the sewage effluent and removed therefrom so as to enrich the biological growth accumulated thereon with oxygen, wherein the growth accumulation surfaces are uninterrupted in their central regions and are formed from a flexible material and supported within a roller cage support structure at their outer regions only and suspended under tension in planes parallel to one another; the end regions defined by the ends of the support structure being substantially circular and said support structure being rotatably mounted at its ends. In the Figure, the tensional support members (13) support the parallel foils (14) and tension them. These foils, which form the growth accumulation surfaces, may be made of polystyrene.
