Abstract

The water or liquid to be treated is contacted with a film of biologically active material on a supporting carrier esp. an open cellular mesh of synthetic material. Two tanks in cascade are used, into which frames carrying the impregnated mesh are immersed alternately the two frames being linked by either a mechanical or hydraulic balance system so that when one is immersed, the other is lifted clear for maintenance.
