INDUSTRIAL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS Inc 19 April 1975 16243/75 Heading C5E The mating surfaces of the doors and door jambs of coke ovens are cleaned hydraulically after use by jets of water. When the door has been withdrawn and the oven emptied, a wheeled cleaning unit of the form depicted in Figs. 4 and 5 is introduced into the opening and the operative surfaces of the door jamb 10a are cleaned by opposing jets of water directed from nozzles 33. During the cleaning operation, each head 30 bearing the nozzles 33 is moved up and down along one vertical surface of the door jamb and across the top and bottom in a path defined by a pair of roller carriage members 15 running within a track 14. The required motion forwards and backwards is produced by a reversing motor 22 acting through a chain drive 17. The hydraulic circuitry is of conventional construction (Fig. 1, not shown). The opposing surfaces of the withdrawn door 11, Fig. 6, are cleaned in a similar fashion by jets of water issuing from nozzles 40. According to another embodiment, the spray heads for both door jamb and door may be mounted on the same hydraulically operated telescopic column 70, Fig. 7, in rotatable housings 72. In use, the column is extended and retracted in the vertical direction, the spray heads being positioned horizontally, to clean the vertical surfaces of the door or door jamb. At the upper and lower ends, the spray heads are swung vertically by operation of synchronous electric motors (not shown) so as to clean the horizontal surfaces.
