Abstract

1464622 Fire-fighting device W R STOKES 2 June 1975 [15 June 1974 4 Dec 1974] 26644/74 and 52381/74 Heading A5A A fire-fighting device for smothering small fires comprises a flexible and foldable fireresistant blanket B, e.g. of asbestos, attached to a manually extendible frame comprising crossed and articulated bars 1, 2; 3, 4 and 5, 6, the two principal bars 1, 2 being pivoted together at connector 12 of handle H and bars 7 and 8 pivotally connected to slide 14 which can move along parallel portions 11a of 11 and cause opening and closing of the frame in parallel ruler fashion and cause extension or collapse of the blanket B. A further connector 13 is provided to stabilize the handle H. The blanket is attached to the frame preferably by releasable fastener elements 17 passing through holes in the blanket and bar ends. An envelope may be provided to contain the collapsed frame with the blanket wrapped around it.
