Abstract

1464293 Microwave heating RAYTHEON CO 22 Aug 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 36995/74 Heading H5H A microwave cooking plate is composed of alternate strips of higher and lower dielectric constant respectively to produce a fringe field pattern at the surface of an object to be cooked to produce a browned surface on that object. The lower dielectric constant material 104 may be air, in which case the opposing walls 106a, 106b of higher dielectric constant material are coated with conductive material and may be inclined so as to taper the air space away from the object 102 to be cooked. The plate may be used to support food in a microwave oven when two such plates may be employed simultaneously on either side of the object to be cooked. In another embodiment the plate is in the form of a conveyer belt, and the strips may be transverse or longitudinal to the direction of travel of the belt.
