1463536 Tape feed means; labelling DYMO INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1974 [21 April 1973] 17316/74 Headings B8M and B8F A printing and dispensing tool comprises a reel 44 of tape 1 carrying labels 43, a printing table 39, a printing head 40 and a forked rocking arm 3 pivoted about spindle 4 and carrying between the ends of forks 3a, 3b a gripping latch 6 and a guide surface 9 which coact to step the tape forwards. The tape is fed from roll 44, over table 39, around edge 42, under guide tongue 29 and between latch 6 and surface 9 and between stop pawl 15 and fixed guide web 27. On squeezing handle 31 (which terminates in forks 32a, 32b) it pivots about 37. A pin 33 on each fork causes arm 3 to rotate counterclockwise as seen in Fig. 1 until latch 6 moves up the tape a distance of one label. At this point feelers 11 come to a recess on each edge of the tape and drop into grooves 13 in guide 9 thereby bringing latch 6 closer to guide 9 so that teeth 6 pass through the tape into grooves 12 and edges 14 clamp the tape against guide 9. Simultaneously head 40 prints a label. On release of handle 31 forked arm 3 rotates clockwise to return latch 6 to the position of Fig. 1 thereby stepping the tape forwards. The printed label curls around roller 41 for removal. In the rest position shown spring 22 causes pivoted link 20 to urge teeth 16 of locking pawl 15 into holes 28 of fixed guide web 27, thereby preventing forwards movement of tape 1. During the rocking of arm 3 surface 25 contacts pawl 24 causing link 20 to lift and release locking pawl 15. Likewise surface 45 of clamp arm 38 which normally presses tape 1 against surface 46 is lifted during the rocking of arm 3. In a second embodiment, Fig. 6, the clamp arm is omitted.
