1463089 Separation of hydrocarbons SNAMPROGETTI SpA 14 Nov 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 49381/74 Heading C5E A process for separating diolefins or aromatic hydrocarbons from mixtures containing other hydrocarbons comprises subjecting the mixture to extractive distillation or to liquid-liquid extraction using, as a solvent, a compound having the formula The solvent may be used in admixture with up to 20% by weight of water. The examples describe (a) the separation of benzene and toluene, from a mixture also containing xylenes, C 9+ aromatics and saturated hydrocarbons by liquidliquid extraction followed by extractive distillation, both steps using the above solvent, (b) separating isoprene from a mixture also containing C 5 olefins, diolefins and saturated hydrocarbons by several extractive distillation steps and (c) separation of styrene from a mixture also containing alkylbenzenes and other hydrocarbons by several extractive distillation steps. It is also stated that the solvent may be used to separate butadiene from petrochemical cuts by extractive distillation and indene from a C 9 hydrocarbon cut from steam cracking gasoline, also by extractive distillation.
