Abstract

1462603 Mixing liquids CONSIGLIO NAZIONALE DELLE RICHERCHE 10 Jan 1975 1043/75 Heading B1C In the mixing of two liquids in chemical/ physical analysis, flows of the two liquids are directed successively through two diametrically opposite conduits 10, 12, an annular chamber 18 (the flows each being split), two diametrically opposite tapering conduits 24, 26 offset 90‹ from the conduits 10, 12 (the split flows of the two liquids combining), a central chamber 28, an expansion chamber 34, converging conduits 48, and an outlet conduit 46. The tapering of the conduits 24, 26 increases flow velocity, and the redirecting of flow between the conduits 24, 26 and the central chamber 28 is achieved by a conical end 30 of a pin 32, the base and apex of said conical end being respectively on the level of the lower outlet edges and coincident with or slightly above the axes of the conduits 24, 26, and flow from the expansion chamber 34 is also through further conduits 50 perpendicular to and joining, part way along, the conduits 48. The device is shown incorporated in apparatus comprising syringes A1 connectible with a switching means B to either containers for liquid to be examined or to the conduits 10, 12, and an observation cell C provided with a sleeve 40 of transparent material and diametrically opposite openings 42 for viewing the mixing and/or reaction of the liquid.
