Abstract

1462185 Test probes MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd 4 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 22065/73 Heading H2E A probe assembly for use at high frequencies comprises a mounting plate (not shown) for spacing a plurality of probes in a predetermined fashion, each probe 3 being slidingly mounted in a housing 2 and having a collar 6 making sliding electrical contact with a resilient bush 7 held by the housing and a thickened apertured portion 8 to which is connected a cord 10 holding the probe out of contact with a printed circuit board 5 under test. The cord 10 runs through a hollow incompressible tube 11 to an electromagnetically operated solenoid 12, and is normally held in tension by the compression spring 15. Energizing the solenoid compresses the spring and relaxes the tension, allowing the spring 9 (which is weaker than the spring 15) to urge the probe into contact with the circuit. An electrical connection is made to the outer surface of each housing 2 by soldering.
