Abstract

1461965 Axial-flow turbines WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 27 Aug 1974 [5 Sept 1973] 37332/74 Heading FIT An axial-flow gas turbine comprises an outer casing 12 surrounding an inner casing 14 having circumferential grooves 45 slidably containing arcuate support segments 44 carrying bladed and unbladed arcuate shroud segments 34, 46, respectively, interlocked at 47. Each support segment 44 is locked to casing 14, with freedom for circumferential expansion, by a radial bolt (48), Fig. 2 (not shown), whilst each bladed segment 34 is similarly locked at a centre point of its curvature by a pin 54 passing through a support segment 44 and having flats 55 mating with slots 60 in the segment 34. Each pin 54 is retained by a member 56 and bolts 57. End-plates (50, 53) may axially retain the outermost support segments in each section of the inner casing 14. The latter is supported from outer casing 12 by keys 36 and pins 40, a cooling air chamber 42 being defined between the casings. Internal leakage is prevented by spring- loaded seals 43 and by seal strips (52) between adjacent segments.
