Abstract

1461383 Hospital beds HOWORTH AIR CONDITIONING Ltd 10 April 1974 [28 April 1973] 20317/73 Heading A4J A hospital bed unit comprises a wheeled, first frame 1 carrying a levitation bed by which a patient is supported on a cushion of escaping air, a second frame 3 or 3a, which may be wheeled or suspended, a cover carried by the second frame for over-lying and enclosing the levitation bed, a plenum chamber 8 disposed above the bed, and a fan 14 for blowing air from the plenum chamber 8 over a heating unit and through a filter 7a or 7b on to the patient. The cover Figs. 3, 4 may comprise flaps 6 hinged at their upper edges adjacent the longitudinal edges of a ceiling plate 7 forming a part of the cover. The lower edges of the flaps 6 have skirts 11 which restrict escape of air from the chamber 10 defined within the cover over the patient. Alternatively Fig. 5 the cover 5a may be hinged at one side 17 and is counterbalanced by a weight 18. The height of the cover 5a may be adjusted by a handle 19 operating a rack and pinion. The bed supporting frame 1 may be pivotally mounted, at 13, on a subframe 1a to effect a tilting of the bed to raise the patient's head.
