Abstract

1461358 Colostomy appliances HOLLISTER Inc 4 Sept 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 38659/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division C3] Ostomy and like appliances comprise seals made from compositions comprising by weight (1) 5 to 90% polyisobutylene, (2) 5 to 70% polyvinyl alkyl ether and (3) 1 to 50% microcrystalline wax and optionally 5 to 40% of a strengthening resin, e.g. a ketone resin or polyterpene resin. The appliance may comprise a pouch 10 having an opening 15 to which is applied a polyethylene gasket 12. A sealing ring 11 may be applied directly to the gasket, or there may be interposed therebetween a layer of flexible plastics foam, e.g. polyethylene foam, bonded to the gasket 12 by a layer of a composition of the invention or other adhesive composition. Alternatively the sealing ring may be provided with an inner layer 41 of flexible textile material which is sealed by turning in the inner edge 42 of sealing ring 11. Examples describe seals made of compositions comprising polyisobutylene, polyvinyl isobutyl ether, microcrystalline wax and optionally cyclohexanone resin or #-pinene/dipentene resin.
