Abstract
1461016 Severing edges of wired glass plate CENTRAL GLASS CO Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 51292/74 Heading C1M Apparatus for breaking off the edge 70a of a horizontal wired glass plate 70 along a score line 94, comprises glass grasping plates 62 mounted on support plates 42 pivotally joined by a pin 40 to a rod 34 parallel to the glass plate 70 and interconnected by vertical parallel rods 24, 28, to two further horizontal rods 22, 20, the rods being pivoted together and rods 22, 20 being pivoted about fixed axes to shafts 16, 10 so that the linkage of rods can be moved into positions shown in Figs. 4(II) and 4(III); one of the shafts 16 or 10 having means C to turn the shaft (10, as shown) through the required angles so that the glass grasping plates 62 are moved to bend the edge 70a first downwardly and then upwardly and further means being provided to pivot the support plates 42 about the pivot 40 after the glass edge 70a has been moved upwardly so that the edge 70a is broken off. The downward and upward movements of the linkage and therefore of the plates 62 and edge 70a, may be repeated as necessary before the final pivoting of plates 42. A number of variations of the positions of the rods are disclosed. As shown, identical linked rod blocks A with grasping mechanisms B and a driving mechanism block C are interconnected by the primary shaft 10 rotatably mounted on a frame 12 by bearings 14. Each block A has the secondary shaft 16 rotatably supported by bearings 18 on frame 12, the shaft 16 being above shaft 10 and pairs of rods 20 and 22 being fixed respectively to shafts 10 and 16. Single interconnecting vertical rods 24, 28 are provided and a pair of rods 34 extend either side of the pair of support plates 42 with the pivot pin 40 also parallel to shafts 10 and 16. The means to pivot the support plates 42 comprises a pneumatic cylinder 46, with plunger 48, supported on a bracket 44 secured to one of the rods 34 by a pivot 50, the end of plunger 48 being pivoted by a pin 52 at the lower end of one of the plates 42 so that when the plunger 48 is retracted, the support plates 42 and glass grasping plates 62 pivot downwardly to the dot-dash lines shown in Fig. 2. Operation of the glass grasping plates 62 is effected by a pneumatic cylinder 54 mounted on one of the plates 42 with its plunger 56 horizontal and at its end pivoted by a pin 60 to connecting vertical rods 58 one extending upwardly and one downwardly. The plates 62 are joined to the upper and lower rods 58 by L-shaped plates 64 to which they are fixed, the plates 64 being pivoted to their respective rods 58 by pins 66 and to the support plates 42 by pins 68 so that retraction of plunger 56 causes pivoting of the L-plates 64 and associated plates 62 about the pivot pins 68 to an open position. The driving mechanism C, which provides the oscillating motion of shaft 10, with bracket 74 fixed to, and bracket 76 rotatable about, the shaft 10 and provided with push boards 78, 80 parallel to the shaft 10. Pneumatic cylinders 82, 90 are pivotally mounted on either side of shaft 10 by pins 84 to brackets 86 secured to the frame 12 and their plungers 88, 92 are respectively secured to the push boards 78, 80. The plungers 88, 92 are operated in opposite directions to give the required angular movements of the shaft 10. The apparatus may be used with unwired sheets when the second rotation of shaft 10 and rotation of support plates 42 is dispensed with.
