Abstract

1460818 Disperse dyes BASF AG 29 March 1974 [31 March 1973] 14009/74 Heading C4P The invention comprises anthraquinone disperse dyes of the general formula wherein X is a linear or branched C 1 -C 4 alkylene radical in which the carbon atom directly linked to the oxygen atom is a primary carbon atom. They are prepared by (a) reacting 1- amino - 2,4 - dihydroxy - anthraquinone with a compound Hal-X-CN where Hal is chloro or bromo in presence of an agent having an alkaline reaction in a polar organic solvent, (b) reacting a 1 - amino - 2 - aryloxy - 4 - hydroxyanthraquinone (which may be prepared in situ) or 1-amino- 2 - methoxy - 4 - hydroxyanthraquinone with an #-hydroxyalkyl cyanide HO-X-CN wherein the hydroxy group is attached to a terminal carbon atom in presence of an agent having an alkaline reaction in a polar solvent free from hydroxyl groups or in an excess of the #-hydroxyalkyl cyanide or (c) reacting a 1- amino-4-hydroxyanthraquinone having a group -O-X-Hal in the 2-position with an alkali metal cyanide in a polar organic solvent. The dyes give pink shades on polyesters, polyamide, and di- and tri-acetate rayons.
