Abstract
2 - Hydroxy - 1,4 - naphthohydroquinone - 2 - (aminobenzoates) having the general formula <FORM:1055606/C2/1> in which R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and R1 and R11 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups, are prepared by reacting a nitrobenzoic acid chloride with a 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone in an inert solvent and in the presence of a tertiary amine to form a nitrobenzoate and then catalytically hydrogenating the nitrobenzoate to reduce the quinone system and the nitro group of the ester.
