Abstract
1460737 Apparatus for deposition of substances in the ground CALOR AGRICULTURE Ltd 11 July 1974 [12 April 1973] 17770/73 Heading AID Apparatus for deposition of ammonia (or solid fertilisers, or seeds) in the ground comprises a plurality of deposition means 1 (only one shown) coupled to a frame 7 by a pair of single or double link arms 8, 9 having horizontal pivots 10-13 which impart a substantially vertical movement to the deposition means 1 relative to the frame 7, the deposition means including a tine 5 and a tube 3 and being mounted by one or two frames 2 to the link arms 8; 9 for pivotal movement about an axis 14, and ground engaging means 19 adjustable relative to the frames 2 for varying the depth of penetration of the deposition means 1 into the ground. The apparatus includes a vertically adjustable disc coulter 26 which is also pivotable about an axis 28, the pivotal movement being limited by a stop 38. A spring 30a urges the apparatus downwardly and a stop 30 limits the upward movement of the apparatus when driven on uneven ground. The lateral displacement of the deposition means 1 is varied by varying a number of shims (31) Fig. 3 (not shown) which are provided at each end of a pair of pivots 10 and 12. Alternatively, or in addition, a pivot casing 33 of pivot arm 27 of the coulter 26 is adjustable in an adjustment pivot casing 34 for the lateral adjustment of the coulter. 26. In another embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the lower link arm 9 is formed by one or more leaf springs which serve the dual function of one arm of a parallelogram or quadrilateral linkage and as a means for biasing the support frames 2 downwardly and the arm 27 is pivotally mounted on the upper link 8. A number of deposition means 1 may be arranged side by side or staggered.
