Abstract

1460690 Printers ITT CREED Ltd 28 Aug 1975 35530/75 Heading G4H A serial printer with a traversing printhead has a queueing store which delivers a first signal to have the printing operation started when there is a character in the store to be printed and a second signal to stop the printing operation when there is no character left in the store to be printed, and control means for accelerating the printhead until a specific forward velocity is reached, for maintaining said velocity for printing and for decelerating the printhead to stop the printing operation and bring the printhead to rest at aspecific position, and atime-out unit which delays the first signal such that the print operation is never started within a specific time lapse from the preceding second signal. The further feature is disclosed that if the displacements in the acceleration and deceleration periods together exceed the intercharacter gap to the next character to be printed, the printhead is back-tracked (before or after printing).
