Abstract

1460635 Alumina-silicon carbide refractory NORTON CO 1 April 1974 14391/74 Heading C1J A monolithic refractory body comprises SiC particles separated from each other and surrounded by a continuous alumina matrix, the body containing 15-44 wt. per cent SiC and 56-85 wt. per cent alumina grains, at least 25% of the alumina grains being finer than 50 Á, at least 8% of the body being alumina grains finer than 10 Á and at least 75 of the SiC particles being coarser than 150 Á. Up to 20% of the alumina may be replaced by zirconia.
