Abstract
1460462 Anion exchange resins ROHM & HAAS CO 18 Jan 1974 [5 Feb 1973] 02406/74 Heading C3P Anion exchange resins containing units of one of the following formulae wherein R<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 hydroxyalkyl, R<SP>4</SP> is H or CH 3 and X- is an anion, are prepared by, respectively, (I) reductively aminating a bead copolymer of a major amount of acrolein and/or methacrolein and a minor amount of a cross-linking monomer, or (II) quaternizing the product of (I). In examples, acrolein/divinyl benzene and acrolein / divinyl benzene / diethyleneglycol divinylether copolymers are reductively aminated with formic acid and dimethylamine, and the product is quaternized with methyl chloride. Numerous alternative cross-linking monomers are mentioned, and other co-monomers may also be present.
