Abstract

1460335 Expanded detergent granules COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 25 March 1974 [29 March 1973] 13130/74 Heading C5D Detergent particles are prepared by (a) mixing organic detergent, hydrotrope, hydratable salt, water-soluble inorganic salt (excluding sodium silicate), oxygen-liberating per-compound and 15-40 weight per cent of water, the hydratable salt being added before the inorganic salt and per-compound but after the detergent and hydrotrope and at least some of the water, thereby forming a paste capable of retaining small oxygen bubbles without substantial coalescence thereof, (b) liberating oxygen from the per-compound to bleach the paste and expand it to at least twice its original volume, (c) setting the expanded paste to a friable mass without substantially changing its volume and (d) granulating the friable mass to form particles having an apparent density of less than 0À32 g./cc. Ingredients specified include sodium tridecylbenzene sulphonate (detergent), sodium toluene sulphonate (hydrotrope), pentasodium tripolyphosphate and tetrasodium pyrophosphate (hydratable salts), sodium sulphate (inorganic salt) and hydrogen peroxide (per-compound). The composition may also include sodium silicate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and brightener.
