Abstract
1460294 Separation of polychloroprene rubber from latex BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 23 May 1974 [1 June 1973 27 Nov 1973] 26228/73 and 54969/73 Heading C3P Polychloroprene rubber is separated from a latex obtained by polymerization in the absence of or in the presence of not more than 0À5 wt., per cent (based on the total monomer(s) used) of a rosin acid soap emulsifier, by adding the latex to an aqueous coagulant solution of aluminium sulphate and a water soluble acid, a water dispersible parting agent being brought into contact with the polychloroprene rubber in an aqueous medium during or after coagulation, and thereafter separating the coagulated product from its aqueous medium. The water soluble acid is preferably a mineral acid such as HCl or H 2 SO 4 . A weak water soluble acid such as acetic acid, may be added to the latex, before the latter is added to the coagulant solution, which may optionally contain an alkaline earth metal salt such as CaCl 2 . Suitable parting agents are finely divided inorganic powders such as mica, talc, CaCO 3 , clays and silicas.
