Abstract

1460095 Flake-ice producing machines A J TREUER 29 Aug 1974 37779/74 Heading F4H A flake-ice producing machine comprises a horizontal rotatable shaft 10 supporting at least one rotatable, hollow, vertical disc member 17. A water distribution pipe 21 extends upwardly from a pan 20 adjacent at least one surface of the disc for pumping water as a sheet over approximately one-half of the surface of the disc. During the production of ice, the disc 17 rotates (arrow 26) while a liquid coolant is pumped via an inlet chamber 51 through passages in the shaft 10 to the interior of each disc and back through the shaft to an outlet chamber 57. Baffles (Fig. 3, not shown), are provided in each hollow disc to define a flow path for the coolant. Stationary ice removal tools 25 are positioned adjacent the surface of the disc to remove the ice in the form of flakes. The tools 25 are mounted upon supporting plates 75-77. The plates 76 and 77 are at a slight angle to each other (see Fig. 5, not shown), to aid the removal of the ice. Each tool comprises an L-shaped plate 78, having a working surface 81 with a sharp edge 83. The disc or discs are rotated by an electric motor 65, a bolt drive 66, a gear box 68 and a drive chain 69.
