Abstract

1459782 Copolymers of butadiene polymers and vinyl ketones BP CHEMICALS Ltd 6 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 10722/73 Heading C3G A photodegradable copolymer comprises copolymerized units of (a) a high vinyl butadiene polymer (i.e. containing at least 25% by number of 1,2-butadiene units) and (b) an aryl vinyl or alkyl vinyl ketone. The copolymer may be made by polymerization in the presence of a free radical initiator. The copolymer may be blended with a thermoplastic polymer. In the examples a polybutadiene containing 90% of vinyl units was copolymerized with methyl vinyl ketone in benzene together with azobisisobutyronitrile and the copolymer was then blended with polystyrene or with polyethylene and pressed into sheets.
