Abstract

1459648 Flame retardant compositions GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 8 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 30099/74 Heading C3R A flame retardant thermoplastic composition resistant to dripping comprises (a) a high molecular weight thermoplastic polymer having a melting point at or above 100‹ C., (b) a flame retardant additive, (c) a non-inflammable fibrous material in an amount of from 0À1 to 5À0 weight per cent, based on the composition, and (d) polytetrafluoroethylene in an amount of from 0À1 to 5À0 weight per cent, based on the composition. The examples describe compositions comprising (a) polytetramethylene terephthalate, (b) antimony trioxide with octabromobiphenyl, decabromobiphenyl oxide or a chlorine containing compound, (c) potassium titanate fibres, and (d) polytetrafluoroethylene. Other specified materials are (a) polyethylene terephthalate, polytetramethylene terephthalate copolyesters, polyamides, polyphenylene oxide and polycarbonates, (b) hexabromobenzene, triphenyl phosphate, bis(2,4,6 - tribromophenyl) carbonate, ethoxylated tetrabromobisphenol A, 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid and tris(2,3-dibromopropyl)phosphate and (c) glass fibres, asbestos, graphite fibres and carbon fibres.
