1459537 Elevators MAQUINARIA Y UTILES PARA LA CONSTRUCCION SA 21 Nov 1974 50536/74 Heading B8L An elevator comprises an interlocking tubular structure through which a lift cage ascends and descends, and having vertically adjustable rails in which landing level gates 16 slide, each gate 16 carrying a safety lock 20, 21, 24 controlled by a passing cage which is suspended from a cable 37 through a safety calliper 26 installed on the cage roof. The tubular structure 5, 3, 6 comprises opposed sides formed from vertically nested interlocked panels braced apart by stringers and provided with vertical guides at intervals to facilitate sliding connection thereto of horizontal gate guide rails 17. The safety lock for locking each landing-gate closed in the absence of a cage, comprises flaps 24 on the gate resiliently engageable by a latch 21, the latter being pivoted out of engagement by an adjustable mechanism 20 operable by a stop on the cage as it reaches the associated landing level. The safety calliper 26 comprises a pair of arms 27 pivoted together for connection to the suspension cable 37, and supporting the cage through springs 30 and stops 33 on the arms engaging stops 34 on the casings of shock absorbers 35 mounted on the roof of the cage. In the event of suspension cable breakage, the springs 30 pull the arms 27 down into a horizontally aligned position where their outer ends project into the tubular structure to arrest the cage, which is then supported through the springs 36 of the shock absorbers 35. The total movement of the arms 27 is controlled by stops 28, 29 secured to the cage. The cable 37 is driven either by a motor unit or manually.
