Abstract

1459248 De-misting windows CENTRAL GLASS CO Ltd and NILES PARTS CO Ltd 7 Feb 1974 [7 Feb 1973] 05712/74 Heading A4F [Also in Divisions G1, H2 and H5] A system for preventing the condensation of moisture on a glass surface comprises a pair of moisture detecting electrodes mounted on the surface, and a circuit for detecting the variation of the impedance between the electrodes, the detecting circuit including a temperature sensitive diode D which compensates for any temperature dependent variation of the impedance between the electrodes. The glass surface may be a vehicle or building window. An astable multi-vibrator MVC supplies a signal at a frequency between 100 and 1000 H z to a bridge circuit R, R1-R3, the resistance R of which is the impedance between the pair of electrodes. A differential amplifier T 1 , T 2 is connected to the output terminals of the bridge and the diode D maintains the base current to the transistor Ti constant despite ambient temperature variations. When moisture condenses on the glass surface, the impedance between the electrodes decreases so that the amplifier T 1 , T 2 supplies an output to switch on an amplifying transistor T 3 which in turn switches on a transistor T 5 . A relay Ry is therefore energized to enable heating current to be supplied to a conductive heating film or wires mounted on the window or to a warm air device.
