1459086 Hand brake mechanisms J WOOD 5 Sept 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 40762/73 Heading F2E A vehicle parking or emergency brake is applied indirectly by a hand-operated rocking device 1 mounted adjacent a brake hand lever 17, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows the rocking device 1 alone seen from the side opposite to that shown in Fig. 1. A lift arm 6 connected by a pivot pin 18 to a handle arm 5 and when the latter is pulled clockwise in relation to Fig. 3 a roller 12 at the end of lift arm 6 engages the underside of lever 17, raising it to the brake applied position. Movement is continued past a top dead centre position of arm 6 relative to lever 17, whereupon movement of handle arm 5 is arrested by an adjustable stop 7. The assembly is now in the position of Fig. 1. Return of handle arm 5 permits controlled release of the brake. The pawl-and-ratchet mechanism (not shown) controlled by button 19 is permanently disengaged by a pin 20. A carrier bar 3 on which the bearing 9 of pivot pin 18 is mounted is vertically adjustable to adapt the device to existing vehicles.
