Abstract

1458879 Fluid dispensing apparatus PAN-NOVA Inc 24 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 55842/74 Heading A4T [Also in Division G4] A fluid dispensing apparatus comprises a first compartment 10 with a fluid inlet line 14, a flowmeter 15 and an outlet line 19 to a nozzle 20, and a second compartment 11 isolated from the first compartment with a light source 35 feeding along a pair of fibre optic paths 37, 39. The first path 37 can be interrupted by a lever 27 which is moved out of the path when the nozzle 20 is removed from a holder 26. The second fibre optic path 39 includes a disc 24 provided with alternate opaque and transparent segments. The disc is rotated by an outputshaft23ofthe flowmeter 15 to provide pulses to a light sensor unit 40. The disc 24 may cause four hundred segments to pass through the light path per gallon. A token acceptor 46 has a light sensor 47 so that the light path is interrupted each time a valid token or coin is accepted. The price and logic system of the dispensing apparatus enables the price per gallon 51, the gallonage 52, the deposited coin value 53, the amount of sale 54 and the amount of change due 55 to be displayed. The apparatus may be stopped before the full gallonage has been dispensed and the necessary change returned. Also the apparatus is stopped if the vehicle tank becomes full before the gallonage has been dispensed and change given. The apparatus has four lamps on its front panel to indicate "insert nozzle", "deposit tokens", "push START", and "fill tank". The apparatus can accept coins, tokens or paper money or be actuated by a push button to produce the required electric signal. Specification 1458880 has identical description but the claims relate to the logic control circuits.
