Abstract

Corrugated paper. - Corrugated cardboard, strawboard, fibre-board, or the like is composed of layers which are secured together by adhesive and corrugated before the adhesive has set, or corrugated separately. The corrugations may extend along the length of the paper, being produced by sets of rollers g, Fig. 1, the corrugations of which are progressively deepened as the material proceeds between them, the last rollers being driers. The rollers may be replaced by disks j, Fig. 4, fixed on the shaft k, and disks m, loosely mounted thereon. Fig. 5 shows an apparatus for corrugating the paper transversely, the separate webs a being superposed by means of corrugated rollers r, the roller t acting as a drier. Multi-ply corrugated boards may be produced by uniting a number of the corrugated boards together, and drying them, the board so produced, after waterproofing, and if desired surface dressing with granulated material such as broken slate or gravel, being suitable for building, roofing, or other purposes as a substitute for corrugated iron.
